Machining technology

We develop machining strategy designs, verify technologies, assist with the development of functional samples, test cutting tools and much more.

Machining Technology Laboratory

The Machining Technology Laboratory focuses on comprehensive solutions to issues in manufacturing technologies, the application of cutting tools and jigs for use in advanced machining strategies, NC machine programming, implementation of innovative approaches and procedures in machining and more.

DESIGNING MACHINING STRATEGIES

One of the main activities of the laboratory is the design of machining strategies using advanced machining technologies, including the design of appropriate tools. In addition to these strategies, which are tested on universal machines, we develop computer simulations in the leading edge SolidCAM and Catia V6 CAM systems.

TECHNOLOGY VALIDATION

Closely related to the design of machining strategies is the verification of the technologies themselves. The machining technologies are tested in the laboratory on universal machines using standard and special tools. Several variants are always tested, from which the most suitable is selected.

DEVELOPMENT OF FUNCTIONAL SAMPLES

In addition to the design of progressive machining strategies, new functional samples are developed to verify the functionality of the component or part with regard to design, material properties and service life.

TESTING CUTTING TOOLS

Not only standard but often special cutting tools are needed to fully exploit advanced technologies. Therefore, we use specially designed cutting tools for testing to increase the efficiency of the machining process.

LABORATORY EQUIPMENT

CTX BETA 1250 universal turning centre

This is a unique machine with 12 axes, the combination of which gives great technological possibilities for turning and milling operations. Its advantage is the synchronised machining by the milling spindle and the lower turret head. The advantage of automatic changeover between main and auxiliary spindles is the possibility of complete machining with increased precision. Pressures of up to 100 bar can be used for efficient cooling.

DMU 65 monoBLOCK multi-axis milling centre

This five-axis milling centre has a working area of 650 x 650 mm, suitable for larger workpieces. Positioning is provided by a cradle machine concept with a rotary table with a range of ±360° (without limitation), which allows continuous five-axis machining of complex shapes. High spindle speeds (up to 18000 rpm) are used for precise
finishing.

DMU 40eVo linear milling centre

This machine is suitable for continuous five-axis machining with precise positioning in all axes. Even complex parts can be machined in a single clamping operation. The linear drives enable machining accelerations of up to 1G and a maximum feed rate of 80 m/s. Spindle speeds can reach up to 24,000 rpm for very precise finishing.

MAZAK QUICK TURN NEXUS 250-II M multifunction turning centre

The robustness and rigidity of this turning centre allows the verification of advanced technologies with high precision. A great advantage is that it can be automated. It is equipped with a Y axis, which allows off-axis drilling and milling. This turning centre extends the range of the HEIDENHAIN and Siemens control systems with the
integrated Mazatrol system.
